In an article last week from Healthcare IT News, author Tom Sullivan describes the launch of one NYU Langone Medical Center's new registration system.  This system includes palm scanning, eCapture tools, and uses the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

This initiative, funded with the help of AIG, has helped NYU Langone significantly reduce paperwork consumption, shorten waiting room times, and ease clinician workload.  According to NYU Langone CIO Nader Mherabi, "It's crucial to be able to recognize and correct misperceptions quickly".

This new system benefits patients as well.  When patients walk into the facility they can check in by scanning their palm, receiving a tablet, and using the Mobile eCapture System to complete any forms that need updating or have yet to be filled out.  Mherabi notes, "It's all too easy to assume that we know exactly what the patient wants".  However, this initiative has gotten such an overwhelmingly positive response from patients that the roll-out is being accelerated across other departments and facilities.
